The downfall of Ed Hardy

‘Douche bags’ in Ed HardyEd Hardy became a hit years back with their trademark vintage tattoo designs on t-shirts, about the same time the skull trend took off. I think teens and young adults latched onto the trend feeling a little more rocker, edgy, or risky. Within the last couple years, Ed Hardy has been everywhere. Shirts, t-shirts, shoes, hats, belts, and handbags can be found at about every department store and the t-shirts even pop up at discount retailer chains such as Marshall’s and T.J. Maxx. Ed Hardy designs can even be found on lighters and shot glasses.

Everyone has been seen wearing the shirts including every pre-pubescent teen and ‘Guido’ on the jersey shore, and scores of v.i.p. club wanna-be types. A common pop- culture slang term for proud wearers of blinged Ed Hardy shirts would be the ‘douche bag’ . I even saw an older gentleman wearing Ed Hardy at a gas station. I wondered if he picked up the t-shirt from his son’s laundry, and if he had any idea what it was about. Perhaps he was in the midst of mid-life crisis and like many was trying to look young, hip, and hardcore. (more…)

WAYNE Carey’s on-off flame Kate Neilson has formed an unlikely pairing with Mick Gatto… in the name of fashion.

Colourful Melbourne businessman Mick Gatto has become an unlikely model for fashion label Ed Hardy.

Gatto is often snapped wearing the label’s printed T-shirts and had a front-row seat at the brand’s fashion parade during Sydney Fashion Week last month.

Now Kate Neilson, the on-again, off-again, on-again, off-again girlfriend-turned fiancee of fallen footy great Wayne Carey has popped up as the label’s latest publicity-seeking missile. (more…)

Ed Hardy Designer Christian Audigier Talks Jon Gosselin, Michael Jackson

Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier knew Michael Jackson. He partied with Michael Jackson. And Jon Gosselin is no Michael Jackson.

At least not when it comes to people he had plans to collaborate with on potential clothing lines. (Among any number of other distinctions.)

Despite reports to the contrary, spurred on by an Audigier-funded trip to St.-Tropez for Gosselin and girlfriend Hailey Glassman, the T-shirt purveyor tells E! News that the only celebrity he ever discussed going into business with was the King of Pop. (more…)

More Flooding in September: Ed Hardy Gets Wet

A day after a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman told the Weekly that all the subterranean water-system carnage that’s happened over the week is “normal,” another pipe burst, closing Melrose Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue and sending water rushing into a nearby — gasp! — Ed Hardy shop.

The 8-incher gave way about 1:40 a.m., causing parts of Melrose near Ogden Drive to buckle, and forcing officials to close Melrose, according to KTLA. The Ed Hardy store, a record shop and an actor’s studio were flooded.

The station calls it the seventh water main break in the city since a massive “trunk” line in Studio City gave way Sept. 5. KTLA also reports that the DWP is looking into flooding near Beechwood Drive and Fountain Avenue in Hollywood. That could be number eight. (more…)
