Ultimate Ears Announces Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones

Filed under: earphone — admin @ 1:00 am

Ultimate Ears announced Tuesday a new noise-isolating earphone called Ultimate Ears 700. The earphones feature a, “custom-tuned dual-armature layout that separates the broad frequency response – 10 Hz to 16.5 kHz – into two high-fidelity channels per ear.”

To translate that: The earphones have two hi-fidelity speakers in each ear piece, but the company has worked to keep them quite small (each piece is smaller than a U.S. dime)

The earphones come with an assortment of earpieces to accommodate different ears (small, medium, and large), as well as the option of a Comply foam cushion. Ultimate Ears said that the design of these ear pieces provides for a better fit, and a better seal.

The company said this better fit and seal provides passive noise-isolation of up to 26 dB. A hard case to carry your earphones is also included.

Noise-isolation is different from noise-cancellation. With isolation, the earphone is intended to simply keep out external noise through the fit and seal of the device, while noise-cancellation uses soundwaves to literally cancel out noise. Each approach has its own merits, uses, applications, and fans.

The Ultimate Ears 700 noise-isolating earphones are expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in April for a suggested retail price of $229.99 (U.S.).

Ultimate Ears 700 noise isolating earphones

I’ve been a dedicated Shure earphone user for a long time, despite all the good things I’ve heard about Ultimate Ears. But after using the Ultimate Ears 700 earphones for a few weeks, I can say this: I’m a believer.

Enjoying a pair for in-ear headphones (a.k.a. earphones) is largely about two factors: fit and sound quality. If both of these are to your liking then you’ll probably be happy with the product, but if either of the two are lacking you won’t. There is one catch though–because the earphones go in your ear canal and a seal is needed for the best possible listening experience–you can’t get sound quality without a proper fit. Ultimate Ears’ designers certainly had this though in mind when designing the super-light, micro-sized model 700s.
